Enquanto trabalhava no filme “Piratas do Caribe: O Baú da Morte”, em 2006, Johnny Depp se uniu com o produtor Hal Willner e ao diretor Gore Verbinski para reunir uma coleção de canções de piratas que contou coma participação de Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, Keith Richards, Dr. John, Michael Gira, Patti Smith e muito mais.
O disco duplo se chama “Son of Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys” €e deve ser lançado nos EUA em 19 fevereiro de 2013. O primeiro single do álbum, ‘€œLeaving The Liverpool’€, conta com Shane MacGowan (ex-Pogue) nos vocais, Gore Verbinski e Johnny Depp .
Desde que foi ouvida pela primeira vez em um navio americano em 1885, “Leaving of Liverpool” vem sendo adotada inúmeras vezes por marinheiros e não-marinheiros ( incluindo Bob Dylan, Anita Carter, The Pogues e The Dubliners). O single pode ser ouvido aqui.
